When you go to work each day, are you really thinking about safety? Many workplaces preach safety to their employees and it goes in one ear and out the other. Your workplace might be the safest around because of the policies in effect but if you don’t follow those policies you are putting yourself at risk. Follow these tips to prevent back injuries at your Columbus workplace.
If your job requires you to sit at a desk in front of a computer all day, you are not doing yourself any favors by failing to walk around. Get up every hour and take a quick walk around the office. Stretch your legs and your back. The more you move around, the less likely it is that a muscle will become stiff.
If you are required to lift items on the job, you really need to be careful. Make sure you wear a brace around your waist, bend at the knees and only lift items you know you can support. Don’t rush to move the items either. This could cause you to turn the wrong way, tweak a muscle or something more serious could happen.
If you are doing a lot of repetitive tasks on the job, consider changing it up every so often. Limit these motions and do your best to ensure you are moving correctly. Repetitive motion is one of the leading causes of injury at work.
Back injuries are no joke. They can lead to you becoming bedridden if not treated right away. A back injury at work is even worse. Now, you might have to miss time on the job, which likely means you have to file a workers’ compensation claim.
