Avoiding accidents in the workplace is the main goal of all employers. It should also be the goal of all employees. The sad fact of the matter is that not all employees take it upon themselves to remain safe while on the job, even when they work in dangerous industries or settings. So, how do you avoid workplace accidents in Ohio?
The weather can play a big role in workplace accidents. If you work outdoors, you could suffer from heat exhaustion, which could lead you to pass out and fall down. Stay hydrated as much as possible, wear lighter clothing and take breaks. If you feel yourself getting weak, you need to speak up and let someone know.
If you are required to wear personal protective equipment, or PPE, you should wear it all the time. PPE can include goggles, a hard hat, gloves, a full body suit, boots and more. Don’t risk suffering an injury because you don’t like to wear the PPE required at your job.
When working around large equipment or heavy machinery, you should always use a spotter, especially when the machinery is in reverse. If you are the spotter, be sure the operator can see you at all times. Never walk directly behind the vehicle or piece of machinery. If you are the operate, make sure you stop operations immediately if you lose sight of the spotter.
